The main objective of the Aisling Children's Fund is to provide financial assistance to sick children (under eighteen years of age) and their families residing in counties Tipperary and Limerick. In approved cases the fund may make a contribution towards medical costs not covered by private insurance, health boards oir alternative sources. Non medical expenses incurred by families such as travel, accommodation and maintenance while away from home may also qualify for some assistance.
As a secondary objective, it will seek to promote a parent-to-parent network to offer support and information through shared experience of serious illness and its effects on family life.

The Aisling Children's Fund, which was established in 2006, is dedicated to the memory of Aisling Riordan, Cullen, County Tipperary who was thirteen years of age at the time of her death on 6 May 2004. During her short life, she was rarely ill, but in April 2003 she was diagnosed as suffering from a slow-growing intermedullary brainstem tumour, which was partly removed in New York's Beth Israel Hospital in June of that year. She later underwent radiotherapy and appeared to have made a good recovery, but unfortunately the tumour became malignant and she died unexpectedly a few days after completing her final course of physiotherapy. Aisling excelled at sports, particularly athletics, soccer and hockey, a fact that is now commemorated in Cullen, where the local sports ground is named Aisling Park. A momument erected there in her honour is inscribed: "We live in deeds, not years; in thoughts, not breaths."
For most people, Aisling will alway be remembered for her smile and good humour and for the indefatigable courage which typified the last year of her life. The Aisling Children's fund is s fitting tribute to her memory.
